The Trustees of the Clayton Collection welcome enquiries from those wishing to work with the Collection.
Volunteers who wish to undertake short projects on the Clayton Collection should, in the first instance, write to Dr Frances McIntosh, English Heritage Curator of Hadrian’s Wall and the North East (Frances.McIntosh@english-heritage.org.uk) to discuss their ideas with her.
If their proposals are well received, applicants should then write to the Trustees to request formal permission for the project and, should they require it, a contribution towards expenses.
Applicants are advised that the Trust normally offers up to £50 per day up to a total of £250.
Successful candidates will be asked to provide a Risk Assessment for their project and to confirm that they have arranged for insurance cover.
Each application letter submitted should outline the proposed project, stating its aims and objectives, and explaining how it will enhance knowledge and / or public understanding of the collection. The letter, which should be no longer than two pages of A4, should also confirm that the proposal has been discussed with Dr McIntosh. A letter of support from a suitable referee should be forwarded with the letter.
The two documents (application letter and reference) should be addressed to Lindsay Allason-Jones OBE, Secretary and Hon. Keeper of the Clayton Trust for Roman Antiquities (see Contact Details page).
